       THE JUDGE: Judge Rodolfo “Rudy” Garcia is a product of Little Village. He is presently presiding as an Appellate Judge First District, 6th Division by appointment of the Illinois Supreme Court. He will be a candidate for the Appellate Court Judge vacancy of Michael J. Gallagher in the March 20, 2012 election.
       JUDGE GARCIA attended the University of Illinois at Urbana as an undergraduate, receiving a B.A. in Economics in January 1976. He attended the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business evening’s program in 1977 while working as a computer systems analyst. In 1978 Rudy was accepted to the University of Chicago School of Law, where he earned his law degree in 1981.
             ATTORNEY GARCIA’s legal career began as an assistant Illinois Attorney General in the Criminal Appeals Division where he argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and represented the State in habeas corpus matters at the federal district court level.
He also handled numerous state criminal appeals outside of Cook County.            
             IN 1982, as an associate with Fredrick F. Cohn and Associates in Chicago, Garcia concentrated on criminal appeals, both state and federal. A year later he opened his own general practice law office in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago.
             NOVEMBER 1996, Rudy was elected a Circuit Court Judge from the 14th Judicial Sub circuit. His started in the 4th Municipal District, before moving to the Criminal Division in April 1997. He served as a felony trial judge until receiving his current assignment to the Illinois Appellate Court in March 2003.
            BASED ON Judge Garcia’s background and experience, he deserves to be elected as an Appellate Court Judge on March 20, 2012.

            PEW REPORTS: The 2010 Decennial Census counted 50.5 million Hispanics. Breakdown: Mexicans 31.8 million or 63%. Puerto Ricans 4.6 million or 9.2%. Cubans 1.8 million or 3.5%, Salvadorans 1.6 million or 3.3%, Dominicans 1.4 million or 2.8%, Guatemalans one million or 2.1% and Colombians 909,000 or 1.8%.
            THE MEXICAN population grew by 54%. Mexicans are the dominant Hispanic group in major metropolitan areas in all regions of the country except the East. In other regions and other metropolitan areas spanning from Los Angeles to Chicago to San Antonio to Atlanta, Mexicans are by far the dominant group. Data for this report is derived from the 2010 U.S. Census and the 2009 American Community Survey.

            CAREER DAY: The Little Village Academy School, 2620 S. Lawndale Ave. hosted a Career Day for its students from kindergarten through 5th grade on May 26, 2011. Presenters were Attorney Emma L. Rodriguez-Ayala, Businessman Alphonse Gonzales, Ideal Fitness Solution, Inc. President Margaret Ceja, Northwestern University of Law Operation Manager Armando Santana,  Attorney at Law James D. Rosas, Director of Radio Formula 50AM Gerardo Torres, Attorney Rafael J. Guzman, Waukegan Housing Authority Executive Assistant Catherine Quintero, Business Development Associate Luis-Narvaez, Saint Anthony Hospital Medical Imaging Manager of IT Edgardo Reyes, Director of Medical Imaging James Jankovsky and Marketing Coordinator Vanessa Quintana.
             Elsa Carmona is the principal at the Little Village Academy. Teacher Oralia Villanueva was the coordinator of the event. Great job! Thanks to the presenters for coming to Little Village.

        8th ANNUAL “BIKE THE BOULEVARD” Ald. George A. Cardenas and the 12th Ward Public Service Office invite you to attend the 8th Annual “Bike the Boulevard” event. The bike ride will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 2011 starting at the Home Depot Parking Lot, 4555 S.
